10 FREE THINGS TO DO IN PARIS
1. SCORE FREE MUSEUM ENTRANCES
Paris is home to Museums.
You can go there and spend a week or so and never really visit all the museums out there.
The Louvre museum alone can not be seen in one day.
But knowing that there are a lot of museums there, means that there are more opportunities for Free stuff.
For example, every first Sunday of each month, the biggest names in the museums of Paris are FREE to enter like The Louvre, Musée Rodin, Musée Picasso, Musée d’Orsay.
But if your trip will not fall on a Sunday, worry not because there are other museums in Paris that you can visit for FREE!
Some of these museums are Musée Carnavalet, Musée d’Art Moderne and Musée de la vie romantique.
2. ENJOY THE MUSEE DE LA SCULPTURE EN PLEIN AIR (SCULPTURE GARDEN)
Different from the other museums in Paris, this one is an open-air sculpture museum.
Located in 5th Arrondissement along the Quai Saint-Bernard Road and near the Pont de Sully.
The nearest Metro station is Jussieu and from there you can just walk to the garden.
The garden museum is open 24/7. Stay there a little longer because I think it has one of the best views of sunset in Paris.
The best thing about this spot is that it is often overlooked by the tourists so there are not many people in the area.
A perfect escape from the tourist trap of Paris!
3. WANDER UP TO THE NOTRE DAME CATHEDRAL
The Notre Dame Cathedral is the most famous Gothic Cathedral of the Middle Ages.
It is renowned by its buttresses, carved stone gargoyles and of course the stunning stained glass windows.
Sadly, last April 2019, everyone was shocked by the news that fire broke there and the time it was extinguished, it has caused major damage to the cathedral’s architecture.
We visited last August 2019 and reconstruction has been started and hopefully, they will finish soon.
Nevertheless, a stroll going to the Cathedral is still priceless because there are tons of beautiful things you will discover along the way.
Like our favorite Gelato Shop in Paris, Amorino which we found while we were walking up to the Notre Dame.
So even though you might not see the inside of the cathedral yet, I am sure that you will enjoy the outside surroundings just the same.
4. WALK DOWN THE MEMORY LANE AND DISCOVER PARIS BOUQUINISTES
Bouquinistes are booksellers of antique books along the large section of River Bank of the Seine.
They are the green small shops along the river bank that you will see if you are heading to the Notre Dame.
But they do not sell just old books there, there are many goodies there that you can score like vintage postcards and paintings, prints and old pieces of vinyl.
Walking there is like walking in history because this market has been there for centuries and scanning those books feels like you are being transported back to time.
It is not easy to miss since you will see this for sure if you are heading to Notre Dame Cathedral so make sure to have a quick stop along the way.
5. VISIT THE BIBLIOTHEQUE FORNEY
From outside, this one looks like a mini Palace, but do not be fooled because it is a Library.
It is close to the Seine River and a short walk from Notre Dame and the nearest Metro Station is Metro St. Paul.
It is one of the things that you will be surprised you can do in Paris for free.
You can go there, register and borrow a book.
Just make sure you bring some IDs or your Passport.
6. GALERIES LAFAYETTE ROOFTOP TERRACE
Lafayette is the most grandiose, luxurious and magnificent mall I have ever seen in my life.
I can not use superlatives enough to describe this place and you won’t believe that it is free to enter!
It houses the most expensive brands of fashion and beauty industry and a lot of people go there, not only to shop but to be amazed by its Rooftop Terrace.
It is open daily and you can climb to the 7th floor and check out the terrace that offers a panoramic view of Paris.
7. WANDER IN LUXEMBOURG GARDEN
This is another great spot if you are looking for Free things to do in Paris.
This garden covers 23 hectares of land and houses many activities for every tourist and locals.
However, if you wanna see the Luxembourg museum, you have to pay for a fee.
But if you just want to stick to free things, you can just wander around this huge garden and enjoy every corner.
You will discover a lot of nice spots but basically what you really wanna do there is sit and relax while you enjoying a croissant and a bottle of wine and watch people pass by. You are in Paris after all.
You will see there a lot of Parisians playing sports and sometimes the oldies playing chess along with a good glass of wine.
8. WATCH SUNRISE IN TROCADERO
Trocadero street has become famous for tourists over the years because it offers the best spot to photograph the Eiffel Tower.
However, apart from taking a picture of the Eiffel Tower from the stairs of Trocadero, watching the sunrise here is one of the best Free things to do in Paris for every tourist.
This is the time when you pause a moment and just enjoy it.
From the square, you will be able to see the Eiffel Tower during sunrise and enjoy it with less crowds yet.
During mid-day to night, it will be packed with people so make sure not to skip the sunrise here when you are in Paris.
9. VISIT THE OUTSKIRT OF PARIS, BELLEVILLE
Belleville is nothing like the rest of the city of Paris.
There you will not see those fancy buildings and boastful streets of the city center.
However, it is a colorful part of Paris where you will see a lot of migrants. It is dubbed as the second Chinatown of Paris.
The best thing to do there is daze by the street arts that you can find in every corner of this village.
Walking up the hill you will discover the Belleville park offering you a beautiful view of the city.
It has a nice playground for kids and a secret vineyard.
One of the places where you can find a vineyard in the center of Paris.
10. DISCOVER THE HIDDEN GEMS OF MONTMARTRE
Montmartre is one of my most favorite places in Paris.
It is an authentic village in the heart of Paris that is rich in the history of arts and literature.
If you are an artist or just a fan of the most famous artists like Van Gogh, Picasso, Miro, and Manet, you should see Mortmartre while you are in Paris.
You can walk the street where these famous artists walked and drink in the cafe where they sat and got their ideas creating the most famous art pieces we have now.
Amazing isn’t it?
Not only that it is free to visit this village, since this is located up the hill of Paris, it offers one of the best views of the city.
